Photos taken in July 2019, showing off the park in its best new clothes ! The pond is now more open and letting in the light, heavy rains at just the right time refilled the now deeper pond after removing over 800CuM of silt. Plants had started to regrow within days of the clearance and wildlife returned to the pond within weeks. During 2019 a much greater number of dragonflies and damselflies were seen ovipositing in the new vegetation and newt larvae were found for the first time in many years. The new reed bed is growing well and filling out, with seed heads on many of the transplanted reeds which we were not expecting until next year. Five new plant species were found in the Reed bed alone.
Numbers in red and accompanying descriptions are to match the 1985 photos on this page.
It just shows that if you create the habitat the wildlife will return.
